Andy comes from a family of bowlers all living in the Castlefields area, in this his fifth full season playing in the Premier League he played 25, won 16 and lost 9,  At the beginning of the season he won the second day open, held at Severnside Bowling Club which got him off to a good start and to finish the season he was in the winning team for the Shrewsbury League's Floodlit Four.  Looking forward to working along side Tony....

Richie Goddard

Paul Williams

PaulW.jpg (28782 bytes) Paul (Flipper) Williams started in 1968 as a 7 year old down at Castlefields with Joe Wenlock, who was at that time teaching the kids to bowl to keep them off the streets. Played in the reserves with Mark & George Thomas at 8 which was a mix of adults and kids.  As he got older is game progressed and played in the Inter youths and the seniors at 16 yrs. he won the Harold Kaye 3 times, a feat which as still never been repeated, he also won youth doubles with Tony Wall, his biggest influence in the game as been Terry Sambrook and Tony Dunkine, they helped him, to twice win the league handicap and merit.  His outstanding memory was in beating Martin Codd in Meole Final 21-7 as a 13yr old, his first big game was playing for the County 1st team against Derby at OSBC and reaching a very nervous 19 points.  The one player he respects most and we know they don't always see eye to eye is Tony Poole, mainly for his achievements in the game and for the support and time he gives to Castlefields and the youngsters in the Academy.  For someone who qualified for All England at 16 he fondly remembers how very proud he was when winning the Club Trophy of Tommy Rogers Shield.  His ambition is to win the senior merit which so far as eluded him and to play in the Champion of Champions.  He has played over 40 times for the County and has played the Waterloo  Doubles twice, a great career.

HONOURS

Winner of Battlefield Classic, St George Classic, Pontesbury & Minsterley open X2, POW Open, Willenhall Classic, Twice won League Merit and League aggregate and also aggregate in Div1 of the Shrewsbury League a three times winner. In partnership with that other County star, Wayne Phillips, they have won over 20 Double Titles. Already for the year 2001 he has won the Severnside Singles, Wem Doubles competition and winner of the British Crown Green Tournament Players Association Winter Merit Table.

Glyn Herbert

Glyn started his bowling as a 7year old at Ditherington Bowling Club in St Michaels Street only because it was the game every body else played.  Joining with Eric Wyche they played a bit but then they both moved  to Severnside. His most memorable game as a youngest was in a league game against Terry Sambrook where Terry introduced him to "corner bowling", he lost in a big way.

He later moved to the Harlescott BC with Richie Goddard and floated in the Reserves and the first team and can remember stuffing John (bangers) Nash out of sight.  After playing in the County Inter Youth League he then moved to CastlefieldsBC as a 20 year old playing in the Reserves. He then went on to Captain the Premier League side in the winning season of 1995.  He can still remember, how as a youngest, he looked up to and respected Tony Poole and felt it was a great honour to play against him, with him and then to be the Captain at the fields.

HONOURS

Shrewsbury League Merit, County Handicap, Telepost Doubles, Midland Masters Champion 1996,

Mark Rogers

Its just been announced that Mark Rogers as been selected to play for Castlefields Premier Team for the season 2001, Tony Poole, the new Team Captain, selected young gun Mark from the Clubs Tanners Wines Team of last season and feels that Mark has the potential to make it in the Clubs all winning championship side, since starting to play in 1996 Mark as worked is way up the Bowling ladder, playing for the Reserve Division 2 which then gained promotion, then into the Tanners Wines League and on the way to playing in the last game of last season at Ifton for the Premier side, he played for the County Juniors in the Drakes Pride Championship Team and finished the season as the TSB Salver winner in the Flood Lite Fours winning team. Mark has had excellent guidance from his Father Graham who also plays in the Premier Side and as coached him and others in the Reserves side, Mark still find times to do other things, like leading striker for Wroxceter Rovers and he should attract the young female as he sometimes carries out male model work.
